Good morning and welcome to Music & Memories.
 
This is Linda Sue, and I am the grief specialist at Patton-Schad Funeral Home. It is my pleasure to bring you this week’s program on KASM. This program is our way of reaching out to help families deal with those difficult days surrounding the death anniversary of a loved one.
 
Mid-June finds us catching our breath. Our life is filled with schedules; where do we fit in our grief time? It may surprise you, but grief is a full body experience. We are led to believe the pain only affects our emotions, when in fact, grief can cause body aches, headaches, certain bodily changes, heart health, moods and many more; it's called the full body experience. How then, can we grieve in a healthy manner? For one, we can express our emotions, give yourself permission to feel those feelings. Second, keep up your social connections. This keeps us in a good balance in realizing when life is hard, you're not alone. Third, take the time daily to be active. Activities as simple as taking a walk can help ease depression, agitation and self-pity. And finally, eat foods that support your healing and get plenty of rest. Be gentle with you and know it is ok for now, as you create your new normal.
