Winifred C. Maus, age 81, of Melrose died Friday, July 30, 2004 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers and St. Elizabeth's Society will pray at 6 p.m. followed by VFW Auxiliary prayer service at 7 p.m. and parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Winifred Maus was born January 3, 1923 in Grove Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Henry and Margaret (Wiebolt) Klaphake. She married Wendelin B. Maus May 7, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. They farmed near Meire Grove until moving to Melrose in 1956. They owned and operated the Melrose Locker together until 1975. Since August of 2003 she had lived at Pine Villa Care Center.Winifred enjoyed playing cards, spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling them with sweets or a Dairy Queen treat. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, St. Elizabeth's Society, and a life member of the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary.
Winnie is survived by her three sons, James Maus (Alvina), Mark Maus (Bonita), and Mike Maus (Lou Ella), all of Melrose; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Ervin Klaphake (Virginia), Vangie Hartung (Frank), and Tony Klaphake (Alice), all of Melrose.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wendelin on February 24, 1981; son, Charles Maus on July 28, 1953; and grandson, Joshua Maus on November 23, 2001.
Casket bearers will be David, Wayne, Neal and Karl Klaphake, Donny and Karl Klaphake. Honorary bearers will be Marie Rademacher, Betty Pohlman, Irene Tiemann, June Zirbes, Lilian Decker, Denise Rieland, Peggy Pooler and the St. Michael's Homecare Staff. Cross bearer will be Kirsten Maus and scripture bearer will be Ben Maus.Memorials are preferred to St. Michael's Homecare.
