William F. Spellerberg, age 66, of Melrose died peacefully surrounded by his family Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Melrose.
William Spellerberg was born on March 23, 1938 in Fairmount, ND to William Sr. and Anna C. (Eichholz) Spellerberg. He married Barbara C. Goerdt on Dec. 29, 1959 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. They farmed near Fairmount, ND for 6 years and then in Freeport for 1 year. They moved to Melrose where he was employed by Kraft for 23 ó years and then AMPI until he retired in 2000. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and watching T.V., especially the MN Twins. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his 3 daughters, Gwen Pickering (Glenn) of Savage, Patsy Engel (Bill) of Melrose, Denise Zeyen (Don) of Prior Lake; 5 grandchildren, Rachel Pickering, Chrissy, Wendy and Andrew Engel and Alex Zeyen; sisters, Irene Manikowski of Wahpeton, ND, Mariann Gatton (Orville) of Eldora, IA, Delores Rubertus (Don) of Wahpeton, ND, Betty Evans (Jerry) of Fargo, ND, and sister-in-law, Donna Spellerberg of Lidgerwood, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara Spellerberg on Mar. 1, 1999; and his brother, Jerome Spellerberg.
Casket bearers will be Richard Spellerberg, Bruce Brand, Don Rubertus, Steve Goerdt, Mark Uphus, and Tom Gieske. Honorary bearers will be Anthony Echola and Bill?s Grandchildren, Rachel Pickering, Chrissy, Wendy and Andrew Engel, and Alex Zeyen. Cross bearer will be Rev. Andrew Marthaler.
