A graveside services will be 3pm, Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Lakeview Cemetery, Grey Eagle, MN for William Scheltens who died on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at the Westview Healthcare Center in Sheridan, Wyoming, where he has been living for one month.

William Scheltens was born August 25, 1908 on the family homestead in Rheiderland Township, Chippewa County, near Clara City, MN, the son of Albertus and Talea (Ammermann) Scheltens. His sisters were Henrietta, Mae and Violet Scheltens of Clara City and Montevideo MN.

Bill attended country school and Clara City High School. He received a bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State Teachers College and attended McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis MN. Over the years, he was the principal of various Minnesota schools, the last of which was Grey Eagle. He also taught high school music, science and math for 35 years. Many remember him as the band and chorus director. He also enjoyed supervising the high-school yearbook. He worked 5 years for Jacques Seed Company and many summers working for Northrop King. He loved the outdoors, spending summers gardening and taking his family on camping vacations to many western states. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed his cameras and making up albums of his photos. In retirement, he excelled in the game of shuffleboard while spending winters in Tucson AZ, taking home 8 trophies, including Champion of Champions for the city of Tucson at age 88.

He married Mildred Holien in 1937 and when he retired in 1974, they divided their time between Grey Eagle and Tucson Arizona. Mildred preceded him in death in 1997. They raised four children: Linda (and her husband, Harry) of Waco Texas; Gail (and her husband, Billy) of Dayton Wyoming; Roger of Tucson AZ; and Robert of St Cloud MN. He also enjoyed four grandsons, Michael, David, Travis and Justin, and two grand-daughters, Johnna and Margot.
