Wilfred M. Schmitz, age 82 of Sauk Centre, died Monday, April 13, 2015 at CentraCare Health Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon Saturday, April 18 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Jeremy Theis officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard with interment following in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:30 to 12 noon Saturday at the church.

Wilfred Martin Schmitz was born August 26, 1932 in Spring Hill, Minnesota to Theodore and Veronica (Wolbeck) Schmitz. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany. On April 26, 1955 he married Marita Fré�elich in Stuttgart, Germany. Following his discharge, they resided in Sauk Centre. Wilfred was employed by Dan Welle Motors as an automobile mechanic for many years, retiring in 1994.

Wilfred enjoyed square dancing for many years, as well as farming, fishing, gardening, telling stories around the campfire, and playing BINGO. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marita Schmitz of Sauk Centre; six children, Harold (Deb) Schmitz of Sauk Centre, Ronald (Lynnette) Schmitz of Sauk Centre, Jerome (Mary) Schmitz of St. Cloud, Dolores Schmitz (Fred Eix) of Little Falls, Gordon Schmitz of Sauk Centre, and Lowell (Julie) Schmitz of Rapid City, South Dakota; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Mary Brenner of Little Falls, Edmund (Diane)Schmitz of Medina, Ohio, John (Betty) Schmitz of Watkins, Sylvester (Cathy) Schmitz of Hudson, Wisconsin, Matilda (Roman) Petermeier of Sauk Centre, Edward Schmitz of Franklin, and Edwin (Myrna) Schmitz of Darwin; sister-in-law, Carol Schmitz of Litchfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bernard and Arnold Schmitz; and three infant siblings.

Serving as casket bearers will be Justin Schmitz, Shawn and Tony Thoennes, Isaac, Lucas, and Christopher Schmitz. Cross bearer will be Sarah Schmitz.
