Weldon K. "Weldy" Brendon, age 95 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 1 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Military Honors provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5:15 p.m. followed by United Veteran's Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Weldon Kenneth Brendon was born September 4, 1917 in Starbuck, Minnesota to Julius and Alma (Swenson) Brenden. Weldon graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1935, and then worked for North American, a wholesale company, until 1949. He was united in marriage to Fern Nelson on July 16, 1938, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. He then worked at St. Michael's Hospital as a boiler and maintenance engineer until his retirement in 1982. Weldon was a World War II army veteran and earned a bronze star.
He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, the Knights of Columbus, and Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853.
In his younger years, Weldon enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing clarinet in the city band. Weldon was married to the love of his life, Fern. We often said it was a marriage made in heaven. Weldon was well known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and his gentle nature. His family was everything to him, and he was adored and admired by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Throughout his life, Weldon enjoyed woodworking whether it was building or fixing.
Survivors include his children, Kay (David Kallenbach) Cartwright of Sauk Centre and Sun City, Arizona, Jim Brendon of St. Cloud, and Bruce (Mary Lu) Brendon of St. Louis Park; 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 on the way.
Weldon was preceded in death by his wife, Fern Brendon on February 17, 2001; parents; daughter, Barbara Reiff; brothers, Harland Brendon and Lewis Brendon; and 1 grandson.
Serving as casket bearers will be Tim Cartwright, Phillip Cartwright, Mike Reiff, Jim Reiff, Patrick Brendon, and Michael Brendon. Cross bearer will be Aaron Nation and scripture bearer will be Cheryl Heitkamp.
