Wayne A. Weidendorf, age 64 of Sauk Centre died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis from complications of pulmonary fibrosis.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard. Private inurnment will be at Fort Snelling Cemetery in St. Paul.
Friends may call Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5:15 p.m. followed by United Veterans of Sauk Centre at 7 p.m. and Knights of Columbus at 8 p.m.
Wayne Weidendorf was born on September 15, 1939 in Rochester, Minnesota to Earl and Grayce (Stevens) Weidendorf. He graduated from West Concord High School. Wayne served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962. He married Betty L. Konen on February 27, 1960 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Motley. They lived in Marshall, Minnesota where he was employed 31 years as a sales instructor for Schwan's. He retired in 2000 and they moved to Sauk Centre where he worked part-time at the High School as a janitor and part-time at the Lynx National Golf Course. He was a board member of the Big Sauk Lake Association. Wayne enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, traveling, golfing, and watching NASCAR racing.He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Bishop Busch Council 4863 Knights of Columbus, Queen of Peace General Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853, and American Legion Post 67.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Weidendorf of Sauk Centre; children, Tammie Swaray of Robbinsdale, and Tim Weidendorf and his wife, Kathy of Glencoe; grandchildren, Becky Edwards and her husband, Nick, Chris and Andy Weidendorf and Jenna Swaray; great-grandson, Maxwell Edwards; sister, Norma Musolf of Kasson; sister-in-law, Lorraine Spriggle of Moundsview.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Grayce Weidendorf; and brothers, Geryl and David Weidendorf.
Urn bearer will be Betty Weidendorf. Cross bearer will be Chris Weidendorf and scripture bearer will be Andy Weidendorf. Gift bearers will be Becky Edwards and Jenna Swaray. Honorary bearers will be Wayne's grandchildren, Becky, Nick and Maxwell Edwards, Chris and Andy Weidendorf, and Jenna Swaray.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
