Walter F. Broermann, age 91 of Sauk Centre, formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 31 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Melrose with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Walter Frank Broermann was born June 3, 1927 in Jackson, Minnesota to Frank and Agnes (Kruhl) Putze. After his birth father passed away when Walter was 2 years old, Agnes later remarried Joseph Broermann. The family moved to Melrose where Walter went to country school through the eighth grade. He worked on the family farm north of Melrose until he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea from 1950 through 1952. On April 30, 1953 he was united in marriage to Alice Wiener at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple lived on the family farm where they raised their family. Walter later moved into Fairway Pines and had lived there the past six years.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and the American Legion Post 101. Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards with his neighbors, taking Sunday drives, selling Pride Seed and visiting with his family and his neighbors.
Survivors include his children, Catherine (Michael) Strutz of Willmar, John (Donna) Broermann of Sauk Centre, Lawrence "Larry" (Carol) Broermann of Blaine, Theresa (Donald) Meyer of Melrose, Edward Broermann, Lynn (Lee) Ortloff of Arlington, and Arthur (Kori) Broermann of Melrose; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Alice Boeckermann.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Broermann on February 14, 1999; parents; son, Michael Broermann; and brother, Alfred "Fritz" Broermann.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jeremy Borgmann, Jason Broermann, Sara Strutz, Ashley Grahn, Mindy Bauer, and Adam Strutz. Cross bearer will be Sawyer Broermann and scripture bearer will be Alicia Ortloff. Honorary bearers will be Daniel Borgmann, Nicholas Borgmann, Stacy Little, and Chris Broermann and readers will be Ryan Borgmann and Shane Broermann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
