Virginia V. "Ginny" Borgerding, age 81 of Melrose, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 11 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating and Deacon Ernie Kociemba assisting. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Melrose at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Virginia Verena Dufner was born October 7, 1936 in Albany, Minnesota to Jacob and Leona (Roering) Dufner. On July 19, 1958 she married Thomas "Tom" Borgerding at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin. Ginny was the caretaker of her family while her children were growing up and later did driving and visitation for social services. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Ginny enjoyed fishing, playing cards with her siblings, going to the casino, cross stitch, knitting, crocheting, and eating her favorite snack, Cheetos. Family was very important in Ginny's life. She loved spending time at the cabin with her family and truly adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Tom Borgerding of Melrose; children, Steve Borgerding of Melrose, Dan (Mary) Borgerding of Sauk Centre, Sandy (Ken) Yurczyk of Freeport, and Jeff (Revondalei) Borgerding of Plano, Texas; seven grandchildren, Shaun, Andrew, Kelsey, Jacob, Benjamin, Kallista, and Nicole; two great-grandchildren, Griffin and Eva; brothers and sisters, Allan (Donna) Dufner of Melrose, Darlene (John) Borgerding of Leesburg, Florida, Diane (Jerry) Christen of Sauk Centre, Mary Jane (Roger) Pundsack of Melrose, and Ronald (Dorothy) Dufner of Albany; and sister-in-law, Diane Machtmes of Paynesville.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Valentine (Theresa) Dufner and James Dufner.
Serving as casket bearers will be Shaun Borgerding, Andrew Borgerding, Kelsey Borgerding, Jacob Borgerding, Benjamin Imdieke, Kallista Imdieke, and Nicole Frieler. Cross bearer will be Benjamin Imdieke and scripture bearer will be Steve Borgerding.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
