Virgil G. Sieben, age 97 of Sauk Centre, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 1 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard with inurnment following in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Virgil Sieben was born November 22, 1911 in Saint Paul, Minnesota to George and Anna (Deters) Sieben. He was a 1929 graduate of Sauk Centre High School. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine, traveling the world extensively, from 1937 to 1974. He was a veteran of World War II having been called to active duty while serving with the Merchant Marine. Upon his retirement he moved back to Sauk Centre.He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Sailors' Union of the Pacific, Sauk Centre Seniors, and American Legion Post 67.
Survivors include his brother, Paul Sieben of Sauk Centre; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marian Sieben in 1971; brothers, Victor and Glenn Sieben.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
