Virgil Quade, age 97 of Sauk Centre died Monday, January 11, 2016 at Galeon Community Home in Osakis, Minnesota.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Pastor Becky Thomas and Pastor Mike Carlson officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Sauk Centre, following the funeral service.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, January 14th at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and one hour prior to the service on Friday, January 15th at First Lutheran Church.
Gustave Virgil Quade was born June 25, 1918 in Winter, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Gustave and Ernestine (Wehrhahn) Quade. When he was six months old, his family returned to farm southwest of Sauk Centre and Virgil lived there until 2005. On August 20, 1947, Virgil married Frances A. Graber at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre.
As a young man, in between farming, Virgil played the accordion, drums and clarinet in various local bands. Virgil farmed with his brother, Eugene. They milked registered Holsteins and grain farmed until 1965. They sold the dairy cattle and then raised registered Black Angus. Virgil sold his Black Angus cow-calf herd in 1981. He loved the land and nature and always tried to promote and practice conservation.
Virgil was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He also served on the Sauk Centre Creamery Board, Farmers Union Board where he was president and was the Beef Superintendent for the Stearns County Fair for many years. Virgil loved fishing and hunting, traveling, gardening, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Allen Gamradt of Sauk Centre; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jana Quade of Sauk Centre; six grandchildren, Eric Quade, Angela (Seth) Hanson, Neal (Eposi) Gamradt, Kayla (Shawn) Hunstiger, Cory Quade, and Colton Quade; five great grandchildren, Sarah and Adam Hanson, Alexa and Tyler Gamradt and Bristol Hunstiger; other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his son, Gary Quade on July 8, 2008; his parents, Gustave and Ernestine Quade; granddaughter-in-law, Grace Gamradt in April 1, 2009; brothers, Eugene Quade and Ervin Quade; and sister, Velma Barchenger.
Serving as casket bearers will be Seth Hanson, Colton Quade, John Arceneau, Shawn Hunstiger, Bruce Rindahl, and Roger Schwinghamer.
