Virgil F. Kerfeld, age 89 of Sauk Centre, died Monday, September 3, 2012 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 7 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. James Statz officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m.

Virgil Frank Kerfeld was born September 18, 1922 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Christ and Mary (VonBokern) Kerfeld. On November 26, 1946 he was united in marriage to Alice Korte at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa, Minnesota. The couple farmed near St. Rosa in Millwood Township until 1953 when they moved to a farm in Ashley Township, Stearns County, near Sauk Centre. They retired in 1989 and moved to Sauk Centre. Virgil enjoyed playing cards and listening and dancing to old time music. Virgil was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church where he ushered for many years.

Survivors include his children, David (Darda) Kerfeld of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, Leander (Josephine) Kerfeld of Sauk Centre, Dennis (Marie) Kerfeld of Santa Cruz, California, Sandra (Michael) Frank of Sauk Centre, Mary Croat of St. Cloud, Loren (Mindy) Kerfeld of Sauk Rapids, Ruth (John) Heinen of Richmond, Patricia (John) Braun of Lakeville, and Chris (Janet) Kerfeld of Sauk Centre; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Lucille Sauer of Little Falls and Rosemary Zenner of Sartell.

Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Alice on October 23, 1999; parents; brothers, Edwin, Herbert, and Norbert Kerfeld; and sisters, Verna Hoeschen and Ellen Boeckerman.

Serving as casket bearers will be Kelly Kerfeld, Dan Kerfeld, Tyler Croat, Blake Kerfeld, Joseph Heinen, and Michael Kerfeld. Cross bearer will be Michelle Heinen and scripture bearer will be Paige Kerfeld.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Holy Family School.
