Viola M. Roering, age 95, of New Munich, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Melrose Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, September 19 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B., Rev Ken Thielman and Rev. Virgil Braun will concelebrate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church in New Munich.
Viola Marie Braun was born November 23, 1913 in Lastrup, MN to Michael and Cecelia (Heinen) Braun. She attended grade school and high school in Melrose. After graduation, she worked for Dr. Meyer and Dr. Zachman as a receptionist. She was united in marriage to Arnold Roering on February 19, 1934 at St. Boniface Church in Melrose. The couple farmed in the New Munich area for 65 years. In 1999 Viola moved to the Park View Apartments in Melrose and had resided at the Pine Villa Care Center for the past five months. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing, reading, playing cards, and many crafts. Viola was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich and St. Ann's Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her children, Lyla (Henry) Berling of Sauk Centre, Ronald (Jan) Roering of Sartell, Kenneth (Janice) Roering of Belgrade, Kathleen (Kenneth) Gerding of Waconia, daughter-in-law, Nancy Roering of Melrose, Marie (Roger) Winning of Shakopee, Janice (Tom) Schmitt of St. Cloud, Arnold (Nettie) Roering of New Munich, David Roering of New Munich, Paul (Marjorie) Roering of Sauk Centre, and Susan (Bob) Bodell of Sauk Centre; 49 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; seven step great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Viola was preceded in death by her father, Michael, on November 4, 1918; mother, Cecelia, on February 16, 1972; husband, Arnold, on April 24, 1987; daughter, Arlene Warman in 1983; son, Tom Roering in 1998; infant son, Michael Roering; grandson, Keith Berling in 2004; granddaughter, Lori Miller in 2002; son-in-law, Bill Warman in 2006; and brothers, Clarence "John", Roman, and Leo Braun.
Serving as casket bearers will be Joe Berling, Al Roering, Andy Roering, Brent Roering, Jacob Roering, and Ryan Walrath. Cross bearer will be Jeanne Thiesen and scripture bearer will be Chris Roering. Honorary bearers will be the St. Ann's Christian Mothers.
