Viola M. Frieler, age 80, of Melrose, died Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the Melrose Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 29 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers and the Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Viola Frieler was born April 1, 1928 in Melrose, Minnesota to Joseph and Elizabeth (Dickhaus) Hinnenkamp. She married Lawrence Frieler on September 21, 1954 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple resided in Atwater, Avon, Belgrade, Watkins and St. Cloud before moving to Melrose in 1976. She was a homemaker all her life. Viola enjoyed canning food, playing cards, camping with her family and watching the MN Twins and Timberwolves. She was member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers and the Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council.
Survivors include her sons, Richard (Susan) Frieler of Chisago City, Steven (Therese) Frieler of Hastings, Daniel (Brenda) Frieler of St. Cloud and Brian Frieler of Orlando, FL; seven grandchildren; sister, Celestine "Sally" Hinnenkamp of Melrose; and brother, Luverne (Jeanne) Hinnenkamp of Melrose; sisters-in-law, Marcella "Sally" Hinnenkamp of Melrose and Rosie Hinnenkamp of Melrose.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence Frieler on May 24, 2002; brothers, Alfred and Elmer Hinnenkamp.
Serving as casket bearers will be Glenn Hinnenkamp, Ken Hinnenkamp, Dale Kielty, Jerry Frieler, Darrell Hinnenkamp and Marvin Hinnenkamp. Cross bearer will be Renae Botner and scripture bearer will be Christa Heinen.
