Verona Vogt

Verona E. Vogt, age 94, of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Marty Porter officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church in Sauk Centre.

Verona Emma Becker was born March 16, 1919 in Truman, MN to William and Emma (Heckman) Becker. She was baptized on April 6, 1919, at St. John's Lutheran Church in St. James by Rev. H. C. Hinz. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to a farm near St. James, MN, where Verona grew up. She was confirmed on March 20, 1932, at St. John's Lutheran Church in South Branch, MN, where she was a member of the Walther League and the choir. She also participated in 4-H. On June 24, 1936 Verona married Elmer Vogt at St. John's Lutheran in South Branch. She and Elmer farmed in that area for 25 years and all of their children were born there. In 1961, the family moved to farm near Padua, MN. In 1977, she and Elmer moved into Sauk Centre. Elmer passed away in 1985.

Verona was a faithful and active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. She became a Ladies Aid member and a charter member of the LWML at Zion, holding numerous offices through the years. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir, and was president and circuit leader of the Long Prairie Zone. She also was active in Senior Citizens, volunteered for the Senior Dining Site, and many other activities. In 1992, Verona was voted Outstanding Female Senior Citizen in recognition of her volunteerism in the community.

A gifted quilter and seamstress, Verona created many beautiful quilts and embroidered items. She loved watching her family participate in sports and activities, and she was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins. Verona enjoyed her time with friends and cherished time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Bernice (Lawrence) Wolf of Blue Earth, MN, Wesley (LeeAnn) Vogt of Truman, MN, LeeRoy (Linda) Vogt of Sauk Centre, MN, Kenneth (Sally) Vogt of Sauk Centre, MN and Steven (Carla) Vogt of Buffalo, MN. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Verona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; son, Neal; great-grandsons, Bryan Schuman and Tommy Schuman; and great-granddaughter, Ivy Rose Vogt.

Serving as casket bearers will be Aaron, Ethan, Lee, Colby, Tucker and Carter Vogt and Rich, Rob, Scott and Brad Wolf. Honorary bearers will be Ann Vogt, Amy Vogt, Lori McDevitt and Lynn Schuman.
