Vernon "Vern" F. Doege, age 77 of Sauk Centre died Friday, July 25, 2003 at his home in Sauk Centre.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. James Statz will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Christian Mothers will pray at 5:30 p.m. followed by Veterans prayer service at 7 p.m. and parish prayers at 8 p.m.

Vern Doege was born on May 4, 1926 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Paul B. and Coletta L. (Miller) Doege. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On August 18, 1949 he was united in marriage to Irene C. Blaski at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple resided in Sauk Centre and Vern was employed by the Sauk Centre Creamery. In 1951 they moved to Jordan and then to Minneapolis in 1953. Vern was employed by the Franklin Creamery and the Cloverleaf Dairy. He retired in 1986 and moved back to Sauk Centre.

Vernon enjoyed traveling in his motor home, working in the woodshop in his basement and hunting. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, American Legion Post 67, Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853 and United States LST Association (Navy).

Survivors include his children, Shari Hamlin (Mike) of Deephaven, Barb Stoopes (Don) of Minneapolis, Tom Doege (JoAnn) of Rosemount, Larry Doege (Carmela Narcisi) of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Ron Doege (Peg) of Minneapolis, Bruce Doege (Angela) of Atlanta, Georgia, Bill Doege (Mary Horsch) of Edina, Peg of Sauk Centre, Lynn Sackman (Mike) of Savage, Mike Doege of Minneapolis and Bob Doege of Edina; 22 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Millie Ethun (Kenny) of Sauk Centre, Nellie Blaske of Sauk Centre, Ione Dickhaus (Ray) of Alexandria; brother, Paul "Spike" Doege (Mary) of Crystal.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Coletta Doege; wife of 45 years, Irene Doege on September 8, 1994; brother, Pete Doege.

Casket bearers will be Vernon's sons, Larry, Ron, Bruce, Bill, Mike and Bob Doege. Cross bearer will be Tom Doege and Andrew Sackman will be scripture bearer. Honorary bearers will be Vernon's grandsons.

Memorials are preferred to St. Michael's Hospice in Sauk Centre or donor's choice.
