Verena W. Nathe, age 87 of Sauk Centre, died after a short illness Thursday, March 5, 2015 at CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 9 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Jeremy Theis officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by Christian Mothers at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Verena Walburga Hoeschen was born on March 28, 1927 in Albany, Minnesota to Paul and Anna (Tomsche) Hoeschen and she was raised on a farm near Albany. She was united in marriage to Lambert Nathe on June 11, 1955 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany, Minnesota. The couple resided in Two Harbors for a short time and then moved to Melrose in 1959. Since 1961 they had resided in Sauk Centre.
Verena was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed gardening and canning the produce, most notably pickles and jelly. She also enjoyed growing flowers, as well as feeding and watching the hummingbirds.
Survivors include her son, Alan Nathe of Sauk Centre; her daughter, Diane (Vince) Winter of Sauk Centre; two grandsons, Christopher Winter of Crookston and Shayne Winter of Sauk Centre; two sisters, Irene Rademacher of Melrose and Bernice (Julius) Atkinson of St. Cloud; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Hoeschen of Albany.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lambert Nathe on March 14, 2010; infant daughter, Sharon; infant grandson, Nathan Winter; her twin brother, Vernon Hoeschen; sister, Rose Gysberg; brothers-in-law, Gothard Rademacher and Rodney Gysberg.
Serving as casket bearers will be Greg and Tom Nathe, John and Mark Atkinson, Jack and Chuck Rademacher. Cross bearer will be Michelle Lashinski, scripture bearer will be Jane Schulte, gift bearers will be Christopher and Shayne Winter, lector will be Audrey Wiechman, and eucharistic minister will be Vonnie Zirbes.
