Valeria Schrantz

Valeria E. "Val" Schrantz, age 88 of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Andrew Marthaler officiating. Private family burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church Friday one hour prior to the service.

Valeria Elizabeth Van Heel was born October 2, 1921, in Freeport, Minnesota, to Frank and Agnes (Notch) Van Heel. On July 24, 1948, she married Donald A. Schrantz at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Christian Mothers, and the St. Michael's Hospital Auxiliary. Val enjoyed her Birthday Club, Knitting Club, the Sauk Centre Senior Center, gardening, reading, baking, photography, traveling, square dancing, playing cards and dominos, and visiting with family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. A special thank you to all of her caregivers at St. Michael's Hospice and Home Care and St. Michael's Hospital and Nursing Home who helped her at the end of her life.

She is survived by her children, Judy Schrantz (Pat Brophy) of Mendota Heights, Wayne (Mary) Schrantz of Grove Lake, Jane (Paul) Ehlert of Underwood, Mary (Rick) Taube of Lino Lakes, Marlene (John) Rose of Lexington, and John Schrantz of Elrosa; 19 grandchildren, Lisa Orozco, Amy Felling, Jeremy Schrantz, Tom Schrantz, Casey Ehlert, Michael Ehlert, Gina Erickson, Laura Ehlert, Sara Ehlert, Rachel Taube, Hannah Stenslund, Luke Rose, Timothy Rose, Rebekah Rose, Joseph Rose, Esther Rose, Jason Schrantz, Tony Schrantz, and Joe Schrantz; 14 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Leona Schloegl of Sauk Centre, Louise Minette of Sauk Centre, Marian Huschle of Bagley, Lorraine Bierschbach of Melrose, Arthur (Dorothy) Van Heel of Freeport, Francis Van Heel of Roseville, Robert (Jan) Van Heel of Freeport, Virgil (JoAnn) Van Heel of Loveland, Colorado, and Bernice Roering of Melrose.

Val was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Schrantz on April 13, 2010; parents; brother, Elmer Van Heel; daughter-in-law, Kim Schrantz; and grandson, Matthew Rose.

Serving as casket bearers will be Wayne Schrantz, John Schrantz, Pat Brophy, Paul Ehlert, Rick Taube, and John Rose.

Cross bearer will be Hannah Stenslund and scripture bearer will be Rachel Taube.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
