Tina Haagsma Koopsma, age 93 of Community Memorial Home in Osakis, formerly of Sauk Centre, died Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Community Memorial Home in Osakis, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Marty Porter officiating. Interment will follow in Big Grove Lutheran Cemetery in Belgrade, Minnesota.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
Tina Haagsma Koopsma was born January 1, 1916 in the Netherlands. At age 14 she began working on a farm to earn a living. She was married May 17, 1939 in Menalden, Netherlands to Johannas "Joe" Koopsma who worked as a mail carrier for the post office. Their first daughter was born before the war broke out, when Holland was invaded and later occupied by Germany. In 1948 the family crossed the Atlantic in a nine day voyage to America on a luxury liner, The New Amsterdam. They settled in South Dakota and worked for a farmer for several years. This is where they welcomed their second daughter. The family moved to Minnesota in 1954 where they bought a farm north of Brooten in the Padua area. In 1968 the couple moved to Sauk Centre.Tina was an avid seamstress who enjoyed sewing for her family and friends. She also loved to knit and crochet. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre.Tina had a simple concept for life and that was to always "make the best of it". She looked to find the best in every situation. When her eyesight began failing, she was grateful for what she could still do for herself and others. She was a humble and thankful person appreciating all the little things in life that brought her the most happiness.
She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" (Bruce) Thompson of Sauk Centre and Yvonne (Robert) Sagedahl of Wabasso; grandchildren, Stephanie (Tony) Ketelle, Lisa (Paul) Arnoldi, Jack (Shelly) Sagedahl, Lesley Sagedahl, and Daren (Melissa) Sagedahl; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and six sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe on November 23, 1994; grandson, Steve Thompson; parents; and three brothers.Serving as casket bearers will be Tony Ketelle, Paul Arnoldi, Jack Sagedahl, Daren Sagedahl, Mike Walz, and Austin Walz.
