Thomas D. “Tom” Jacobson, age 77 of Melrose, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at the CentraCare Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 27 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melrose with Rev. David Mommens officiating. Inurnment will be held privately at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Military honors will be provided by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church.
Thomas David Jacobson was born May 5, 1944 in Blue Earth, Minnesota to Virgil and Alice (Wagener) Jacobson. He graduated from East Chain High School in East Chain, Minnesota. Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army in April of 1963 and was honorably discharged in April of 1966. He was united in marriage to Janet Collins on November 5, 1966 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Guckeen, Minnesota.
Tom furthered his education at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, earning his bachelor’s degree in Business. He worked at ITT Shadow in Eden Prairie, retiring in 1999. Tom and Janet retired to their lake home on Little Birch Lake near Melrose. Tom was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melrose. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, especially the Minnesota Gophers, woodworking, traveling, but most of all, loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Janet Jacobson of Melrose; sons, Thomas (Kimberly) Jacobson, Jr. of Eden Prairie, Paul (Megan) Jacobson of Fairfield, Iowa, and Chad (Kris) Jacobson of Plymouth; seven grandchildren, Thomas III, Elizabeth, Abbigale, Mikaela, Chance, Isabella, and Cadon; sister, Patricia (Thomas) Garvey; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Sager and Karen (Jim) Oltman; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Virginia Guphil and Deborah Ritter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Little Birch Lake Association.
