Thomas "Tom" Kane, age 52 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully at home Monday, March 21, 2011 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Learn more about Tom's fight at www.caringbridge.org/visit/tomkane1 .

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The celebrant will be Rev. Tim Wenzel with Rev. Todd Schneider concelebrating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5:15 p.m. followed by Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Tom Kane was born October 8, 1958 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to James and Mary Jane (Kraemer) Kane. He was a 1976 graduate of Sauk Centre High School. On June 24, 1994 he married Janice Meyer at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. He was a life-long resident of the Sauk Centre area, farming the family farm near Padua in Raymond Township, Stearns County. He sold the farm in 2007 and moved to Sauk Centre. He was then employed as a crop adjuster for Rural Community Insurance Services (RCIS). He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and Bishop Busch Council 4863 Knights of Columbus.Tom was a big Minnesota Twins fan and loved to watch local sports teams. He also enjoyed watching the weather and comparing rain gauges with his dad.Tom was very proud of his two stepsons and they meant the world to him. He was known for his kind and generous heart, his great sense of humor, and his faith in God. Being with family and friends was very important to him and all who met him felt lucky to have known him. We will cherish the memories and he will live on in our hearts forever.

Survivors include his wife, Jan Kane of Sauk Centre; step-sons, Matt Middendorf of Browerville and Tony Middendorf of Mankato; mother, Mary Jane Kane of Sauk Centre; five sisters, Carol (Joe) Dockendorf of St. Cloud, Susie (Ken) Rutten of Osakis, Deb (Pat) Robischon of Sauk Centre, Janet (Dave) Kubinski of Sauk Centre, and Bonnie (Joel) Athmann of St. Cloud.

He was preceded in death by his father, James "Jim" Kane on October 7, 2010.

Serving as casket bearers will be Patrick Stepan, Howard Marthaler, James Metcalf, Bob Kohorst, Bob Carter, and Austin Robischon. Cross bearer will be Cory Dockendorf, scripture bearer will be Pat Robischon, gift bearers will be Cindy and Maurie Stepan and Deb Robischon, eucharistic minister will be Susie Rutten, and eulogist will be Mike McCawley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Church, Holy Family School, and St. Michael's Hospice and Hospital.
