Thelma was born on May 20, 1919 in Sauk Centre to Jens and Gena Lyng. Thelma grew up on a farm outside of Sauk Centre and graduated from Osakis High School, Osakis, MN. While attending school in Osakis she lived with her aunt and uncle, Dr. and Mrs. Emile Haberman, where she was an au pair to her cousin, George, and assisted Dr. Haberman in his practice.Thelma married George Arron Robinson on August 15, 1941. They lived in Minneapolis during World War II where Thelma worked at an ammunitions site in Rosemount and George was a welder in Minneapolis...both supporting the war effort. Following the war they relocated to Osakis and operated a family business until 1960 when they moved to Hoyt Lakes, MN, located on the Iron Range...an area they loved and where they blossomed. After the passing of her husband in 1986 Thelma moved to Chaska to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
The hardest role Thelma probably had to endure in life was that of a Gold Star Mother after their son, Timothy, was killed in action in the Vietnam War. Thelma was a devoted wife, great mother and homemaker, an always available grandmother, an "anchor" bowler and never met a crossword puzzle she didn't like. She was an avid gardener of inside and outside plants and her beautiful roses proved that. Her children teased her by referring to the living room as "The Jungle". Thelma was an awesome cook. No one could top her pancakes and home-made syrup and that earned her the name "Pancake Grama". She...and her pancakes...will be missed by all.
Thelma is survived by her children, Nancy Hatten (Russ) of Farmington, Peggy Kamholz of Eden Prairie, Ruth Lukkari of Chaska and Patrick Robinson of Eden Prairie; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandson and 1 great-great grandson (all of whom she loved being Grama and Nana to); brother, Robert Lyng (Carone) of Sauk Centre; sisters-in-law, Joyce Lyng of Sauk Centre and Marion Beck of Morris; and 13 nieces and nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, George; son, Timothy; brother, Herman Lyng; and sister, "Baby Sister" Lyng.
Family attending Thelma is Russ Hatten, Mark Hatten, Timothy Hatten, Seth Kamholz, Aaron Kamholz and Luke Otto.
