Sylvester Seifermann

Sylvester P. "Smokey" Seifermann, age 88 of Elrosa, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 31 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa with Rev. Jeff Ethen officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre.

Sylvester Paul Seifermann was born October 17, 1923 in Spring Hill, Minnesota to Martin and Anna (Eichers) Seifermann. On August 30, 1950 he married Luella Koetter at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roscoe, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Elrosa during their 54 years of marriage. He was part owner and mechanic at the Elrosa Service Station. He also worked as a route driver for Elrosa Dairy Equipment. He was instrumental in starting the Elrosa Volunteer Fire Department and served as chief until his retirement in the late 70's. He loved playing cards, fishing, traveling, and was a great story teller.

Sylvester was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa.

He is survived by his children, Tom Seifermann of Elrosa, Carol (Don) Bertram of Elrosa, Marilyn (Arlan) Schroeder of Sauk Centre, Elaine Jindra of Elk River, Lois (Steve) Weihrauch of Eden Prairie, and Janet James of West Palm Beach, Florida; nine grandchildren, Chris Bertram, Scott (Bobbie) Bertram, Joshua (Erin) Schroeder, Levi (Stephanie) Schroeder, Courtney (Brandon) Magnuson, Eric (Michelle) Jindra, Katie (Ryan) Siats, Brian (Caitlin) Weihrauch, and Kevin Weihrauch; five great-grandchildren, Ava Bertram, Sarah and Grace Schroeder, and Isaiah and Owen Schroeder; brothers, Celestine (Marcy) Seifermann of Melrose, Martin (Louise) Seifermann of St. Cloud, Joe Seifermann of Spring Hill, and Al Seifermann of Morris; brother-in-law, Ambrose Dingmann of Elrosa; and sisters-in-law, Lillian Seifermann of Anoka and Jane Seifermann of Melrose.

Sylvester was preceded in death by his wife, Luella on December 10, 2004; parents, Martin and Anna Seifermann; son-in-law, Wayne Jindra on April 3, 2006; brothers, Roman and Herbert Seifermann; and sisters, Loretta Seifermann, Margaret Dingmann, and Theresa (Melvin) Wuertz.

Serving as casket bearers will be his grandsons, Scott Bertram, Joshua Schroeder, Levi Schroeder, Eric Jindra, Brian Weihrauch, and Kevin Weihrauch. Cross bearer will be his grandson, Chris Bertram.
