Sydney "Ken" Wood

Sydney “Ken” Wood, age 95 of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the CentraCare Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Inurnment will in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Sydney Kenneth Wood was born March 22, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Sydney and Esther (Congden) Wood. After graduating high school, he continued his education at several colleges including seminary college. He served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II, being honorably discharged in 1946. He was an ordained minister with the Southern Baptist Church from 1952 to 1970, serving in various states and also served 4 years overseas in Japan. He worked for the State of Utah’s disability determination services for many years before starting his own firm representing claimants before the Social Security Administration. He married Louise Enneking on November 2, 1972 at Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose and enjoyed reading scripture, gardening, and bird watching.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Wood; his children from a previous marriage, Patricia Ayers, Mark (Sarah) Wood, and Karen (Tracy) Browning; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister; son-in-law; and granddaughter.
