Suzanne Baartman

Suzanne I. "Suzy" Baartman, age 59 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully Friday, November 14, 2014 at her home in Ashley Township, Stearns County, Minnesota.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 18 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Rebecca Thomas officiating. Inurnment will be private.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Suzanne Irene Long was born October 23, 1955 in Northfield, Minnesota to Frank and Anna Rose (Mulligan) Long. She was a 1974 graduate of Northfield High School. She graduated from the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program at Faribault Area Vocational Technical Institute in 1977 and worked at the Faribault State Hospital. On August 18, 1984 she married Bradley J. Baartman at the First English Lutheran Church in Faribault, Minnesota. The couple later moved to Bloomer, Wisconsin where she was an LPN at the nursing home. They moved to Sauk Centre in 1994, where she was employed by St. Michael's Nursing Home. In 1995 she began working for the Minnesota Department of Corrections in St. Cloud and she retired in 2011. She had also worked for REM Home Health Care from 2005 to 2011. She was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Suzy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed giving to others and spending time with her family and friends. She was a quilter, hockey mom, dance mom, and enjoyed Christmas crafts.

Survivors include her husband, Brad Baartman of Sauk Centre; three children, Jennifer Baartman of Albert Lea, Jack (fiancé, Elli Austin) Baartman of Kalamazoo, MI, and Julianna (Spencer) Buchholz of Lisbon, ND; three grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, and Benjamin; brother and sisters, Patrick (Marlena) Long of Greenville, NC, Victoria (Larry Zbikowski) Long of Chicago, IL, and Meredith Sherwin of Albuquerque, NM.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Long; and sister, Rebecca Long.

Serving as casket bearers will Chris Herrick, Chris Baartman, Brent Long, Jacob Sherwin, Jason Sherwin, and Larry Zbikowski.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
