Shirley Deters

Shirley A. Deters, age 75 of Ward Springs, died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Ronald Dockendorf officiating. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Ward Springs.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the church.

Shirley Agnes Kuhlmann was born November 1, 1938 in Birchdale Township, Todd County, Minnesota to Theodore and Antoinette (Terwey) Kuhlmann. She was united in marriage to Alex Deters in 1956 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Ward Springs and later divorced. Shirley was a homemaker most of her life but also worked at Dan Marsh and Montgomery Wards. She lived in St. Cloud for a number of years until moving into her home in Ward Springs.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle. Family and church were very important in Shirley's life. She loved spending time with her family and friends and faithfully prayed the rosary daily. Shirley enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, traveling, and the outdoors.

Survivors include her children, Randy (Cindy) Deters of St. Cloud, Jeffrey (Brenda) Deters of Royalton, Rodney (Rose) Deters of Rice, and Gregory (Kellie) Deters of Comanche, Texas; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; brothers and sisters, Fritz Kuhlmann, Diane (Rich) Koehn, Sharon Kuhlmann, Bill (Carol) Kulmann, George Kuhlmann, Garry Kuhlmann, and Frank (Annette) Kuhlmann.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lorraine Snetsinger; and brothers, Jimmy, Ralph, Ted, Tom, and Larry Kuhlmann.

Serving as casket bearers will be Alexius Deters, Andrew Deters, Adam Deters, Brian Deters, Robert Deters, and Jacob Deters. Cross bearer will be Nicole Sharer and scripture bearer will be Darlene Masslow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
