Sharon M. Walter, age 67 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Bethany Community Home in Alexandria, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 23 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5:15 p.m. followed by the Sinclair Lewis Eagles Aerie Auxiliary 3847 at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Sharon Marie Kilanowski was born March 29, 1947 in Bertha, Minnesota to Edward and Virginia (Motl) Kilanowski. She attended and graduated from Long Prairie High School. On September 3, 1966 she was united in marriage to Melvin Walter at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Long Prairie. The couple resided in Sauk Centre where they raised their family. While raising the boys, Sharon helped Melvin out on their farm. Sharon, with the help of a close friend, opened M.S. Fabrics in Sauk Centre in 1979. She owned and operated the store for 23 years until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Christian Mothers, Sinclair Lewis Eagles Aerie Auxiliary 3847, and many quilting clubs. In her down time, Sharon enjoyed playing games on her computer, watching television shows, especially her favorite, "Who wants to be a Millionaire", knitting, crocheting and quilting. She loved spending time with her family and driving taxi cab on Sunday's with her husband.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin Walter of Sauk Centre; sons, Tim (Bonnie) Walter of Sauk Centre, Todd Walter of Willmar, and Troy Walter of Sauk Centre; grandchildren, Jennifer (Myron) Kottschade, Nikki Strother, Amanda (David) Blaskowski, Megan Blonigen, Brittney Walter, and Corey Walter; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jacob and Emmett Strother, and Mack Kottschade; and brothers, Leroy, David, Roger, and Mike (Theresa) Kilanowski.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Virginia Kilanowski; and grandson, Matthew Walter.
Serving as casket bearers will be David Walter, Chad Marthaler, Chris Kilanowski, Matthew Kilanowski, Adam Kilanowski, and Joe Walter. Cross bearer will be Brittney Walter and scripture bearer will be Nikki Strother. Honorary bearers will be Betty Devriendt, Rosie Kollman, Doreen Lentz, Candy Clouter, Arlene Bailey, Marlene Otte, Dorothy Bieringer, Jeanne Williams, and Marilyn Schroeder. Lector will be Pam Ditter and gift bearers will be Tim and Janet Shea.
