Ruth H. “Ruthie” Braegelmann, age 88 of Melrose, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Private inurnment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Melrose at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. The Schanhaar-Otte V.F.W. Auxiliary will pray at 5 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Ruth Hedwig Schlicht was born August 6, 1930 in Albany, Minnesota to Hubert and Helen (Hofmann) Schlicht. She was united in marriage to Celestine “Mike” Braegelmann on June 10, 1947 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. She enjoyed her Monday morning coffee party group for over 60 years and played in her Bridge group for 50 plus years. She volunteered her time at St. Mary’s School and worked at Kuhlmann Drug in Melrose. Ruthie was a great cook. She made the best dressing, homemade bread, chocolate chip cookies, and fried bread dough, famously known as Strohsack, that all the neighborhood kids would show up to share.
Ruthie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose where she sang in the choir and taught CCD “religious education” for many years. She was also a member of Schanhaar-Otte V.F.W. Post 7050 Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 101, and the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her children, JoAnn (Gary) Jasicki of Weyerhaeuser, Wisconsin, Michael (Zona) Braegelmann of Tucson, Arizona, Patrick (Sandy) Braegelmann of Big Birch Lake, Russell (Linda) Braegelmann of Melrose, Roger (Roberta) Braegelmann of Tucson, Arizona, Jeffry (Becky) Braegelmann of New Ulm, and Jerry Braegelmann of Woodstock, Connecticut; nine grandchildren, Chantel (Jason Haukos) Braegelmann, Ryan (Lori) Braegelmann, Nicole (Chad Yoeckel) Braegelmann, Ashley (Cory) Groves, Erik (Hannah) Braegelmann, Rachel (Joe) Dunlavy, Jon (Kylie) Braegelmann, Peter Braegelmann, and Killian Braegelmann; eight great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Cyril Braegelmann of Melrose and Nick Braegelmann of Melrose; and sister-in-law, Gysella Moore of Eagle Lake.
Ruthie was preceded in death by her husband, Celestine “Mike” Braegelmann on December 13, 2013; parents, Hubert and Helen Schlicht; sister, Char Traeger; brother, David Schlicht; granddaughter, Jenna Lagergren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ervin and Leona Althaus, Ray and Celina Althaus, Doris Ann Braegelmann, Doris Braegelmann, William Moore, and Lloyd Traeger.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
