Rose Nugent "Mux" Walker, age 86 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, October 20, 2017 at BridgeWell Assisted Living in Osakis, Minnesota.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2017 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating and Rev. Andrew Marthaler, Rev. Sudhansu Kumar, O.S.B. and Deacon Lawrence Kaas concelebrating. Private family inurnment will take place at a later time.

Celebration of Life open house will be from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Bear Trap in Sauk Centre.

Rose Lee Nugent was born May 31, 1931 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Henry and Theresa (Essler) Nugent. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church. At the age of 8 she worked and lived part time at the William and Kate Gritzmacher farm south of Sauk Centre. She spent over 10 years with them and considered them her family as well. Rose graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1949 and she worked at the The Corner Drug, MaryAnn Shop, and Litchy's Truck Stop while in high school. After graduation Rose worked in Minneapolis for 11 months and then moved back to Sauk Centre to work for Northwestern Bell Company for five years. Rose married her high school sweetheart, Charlie Walker, on July 15, 1952 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. They had four children together, Barry, Barbara Lee, Tracy, and Susan.

Rose loved to read and watch the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. Rose loved and was very proud of her four grandsons, Jake Kluver, Charlie Barhorst, Ben Barhorst, and Alex Kluver. She was an avid volunteer, being on the ARC Board in Sauk Centre and St. Cloud for helping mentally challenged children. Rose, Charlie, and the Polipnicks started the Father Santo Open Golf Tournament, which became a tournament for over 125 priests and deacons. Rose volunteered for the tournament for 26 years.

Rose was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church and Our Lady of the Angels Christian Mothers. She served as a treasurer, vice president, and president in the Christian Mothers and she also became one of the first Eucharistic Ministers at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church. She was a past member of the Sauk Centre Hospital Board of Directors for nine years, the vice president and president of the Hospital Auxiliary, and served on the Red Cross Board.

Survivors include her children, Barry (Linda) Walker of Sauk Centre, Tracy (Sam) Barhorst of Sauk Centre, and Susan "Suss" (Steve) Kluver of Sauk Centre; grandchildren, Jake and Alex Kluver and Charlie and Ben Barhorst; and brother, Gene Nugent of St. Cloud.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Walker on September 6, 1988; daughter, Barbara Lee Walker on July 1, 1961; sisters, Marge Hinnenkamp, Marion Rosdahl, and Gladys Moore; and brother, Francis Nugent.

Serving as urn bearer will be Jake Kluver. Scripture bearer and lector will be Charlie Barhorst. Cross bearer will be Cindy Kringlie. Gift bearers will be Alex Kluver and Ben Barhorst. Serving as honorary bearers will be Charlie Barhorst, Ben Barhorst, and Alex Kluver.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
