Rose Marie Hiltner, age 85 of Freeport, passed away after a short battle with cancer on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at her home in Freeport, Minnesota
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 3 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Goldenaires Senior Citizens, Christian Mothers, National Catholic Society of Foresters, and Daughters of Isabella will pray at 4 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 5 p.m. and the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Auxiliary and the Albany American Legion Auxiliary at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Rose Marie Moening was born December 12, 1928 in Melrose, Minnesota to Henry and Margaret (Meyer) Moening. Henry and Margaret divorced and Rosie was taken in by J.C. and Rose Meyer at the age of nine months. She attended school at St. Boniface in Melrose, St. Francis High School in Little Falls, and Holy Name Academy in Seattle, Washington. Rosie then worked at Rhodes Department Store and National Bank of Commerce in Seattle, Washington. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Hiltner on December 9, 1946 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. In 1974, the couple owned and operated Hiltner and Company in Freeport. They retired in 1999 and passed on the business to their son, Tom.
Rosie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, Goldenaires Senior Citizens, Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella, Young at Hearts, Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary in Melrose and the Albany American Legion Auxiliary Unit 482. She was president of the National Catholic Society of Foresters Holy Rosary Court 532 of Freeport. Rosie enjoyed quilting and activities at the Senior Center in Freeport.
Survivors include her children, John (Terry) Hiltner of Hickory Hills, Illinois, Judy (Dave) Stueve of Albany, Robert (Marlene) Hiltner of Foxboro, Wisconsin, Katie (Steven) Peschel of Victoria, Louie Hiltner of Wayzata, Darlene (Dennis) Gruenke of Kerrick, and Tom (Pat) Hiltner of Freeport; daughters-in-law, Rita Hiltner of Blaine and Amy Hiltner of Richmond; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hiltner on March 6, 1993; parents; sons, Daniel Hiltner and Paul Hiltner; and great-grandson, Brady Joseph Hiltner.
Serving as casket bearers will be her grandsons, Matt Hiltner, Todd Gruenke, Eric Hiltner, Adam Gruenke, Mike Hiltner, Craig Hiltner, Reed Hiltner, Ross Hiltner and Luke Hiltner. Rosary bearer will be Samantha Hiltner and scripture bearer will be Abby Hiltner. Honorary bearers will be her granddaughters, Pamela Glover, Melissa Welle, Kim Broschart, Jessica Hiltner, Anna Mattila, Miranda Hiltner, Andrea Garcia, and Charlene Ohman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
