Rose F. Gettel, age 89, of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5:15 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Rose F. Gettel was born on September 8, 1917 in Bruno, Saskatchewan, Canada to William and Eleanora (Brumleve) Schloegl. In 1925 the family moved to Sauk Centre, Minnesota. She attended country school through the 8th grade. In 1937 she worked as a cook and waitress in Little Falls and in 1941 she went to St. Paul and worked at the Green Mill. She was united in marriage to Edwin J. Gettel on February 19, 1941 in St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1947 they purchased a farm near Westport, Minnesota and farmed until retiring in 1976 and moved to Sauk Centre. Rose enjoyed her family and friends, the birthday club, working in the flower gardens, quilting, playing Bingo, and a casino day.She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, St. Theresa's Mission Group, and the Lyman Prairie Birthday Club.
Survivors include her children, Edwin Gettel of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Eugene Gettel and Suzanne of Villard, Rosemary Marthaler and her husband, Virgil of Sauk Centre, Geraldine Prestidge of Eagan, and Gerald Gettel of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Bong of Maple Grove and Gertrude Craig of Medford, Wisconsin; brothers, Tony Schloegl and his wife, Betty of Hugo, and Robert Schloegl and his wife, Alma of Sauk Centre.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin Gettel on June 27, 2005; infant son, David Gettel; two granddaughters, Jennifer Gettel and Kelly Prestidge, brothers, Leo, Joe, Norbert, Raymond, and Ralph.
Serving as casket bearers will be Steve and John Marthaler, Jason and Mike Prestidge, Sonja and Nancie Gettel. Serving as cross bearer will be Paula Rose. Gift bearers will be Cole, Alexa, and Skylar Kraker.
