Ronald J. "Ron" Harry, age 83 of Melrose, died Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 12 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Ken Thielman officiating. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery. Military Honors were provided by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 9 to11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose.
Ronald John Harry was born July 30, 1927 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Raymond and Helen (Rieder) Harry. He graduated from Tech High School in 1945. He joined the Navy (SeaBees) during World War II, serving on the island of Guam. Ron graduated from the Los Angeles Institute of Applied Photographic Arts in Los Angeles, California and the St. Cloud Business College. He owned and operated Harry's Portrait Studio in St. Cloud. On August 8, 1950 he married Margaret "Marge" Rolfzen at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. Ron enjoyed bowling, water skiing, golf, and building and flying model RC planes. He retired in 1991 and moved to Melrose and in his later years enjoyed playing "Gin" with the boys at the Restaurant.
Ron was a life member of the VFW Post 428 and the Knights of Columbus in St. Cloud.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret "Marge" Harry of Melrose; sisters, Joan (Paul) Buttweiler of St. Cloud, and RoseAnne (Michael) Shaver of La Crosse, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.
Serving as urn bearers will be Dennis Weber and Kevin Johnson. Cross bearer will be Teri Buttweiler and scripture bearer will be Ryan Shaver. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
