Roman H. Rieland, age 82, of Sauk Centre, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Roman Rieland was born Jan. 3, 1926 in Freeport, Minnesota to Henry and Hilda (Schwieters) Rieland. He was united in marriage to Mildred "Millie" Minette on June 22, 1950 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. Roman was a farmer who lived on a farm his entire life until retiring in 1996. He enjoyed working with wood and metal, making a variety of projects for family, friends, and Holy Family School Springfest. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.
Survivors include his wife, Millie of Sauk Centre; children, Dennis (Mary) Rieland of St. Augusta, Donna (Larry) Hartigan of Sauk Centre, Dale (Maria) Rieland of Sauk Centre, Dora (Mike) Quistorff of Sauk Centre, Danette (Kevin) Toenies of Big Lake, and Dean (Carol) Rieland of Sauk Centre; grandchildren, Kelly and Jessica Rieland, Bradley, Kyle and Michael Hartigan, Shawn (Claire) Rieland, Andrea Rieland, Sheena (Kyle) Mees, Darrin Quistorff, Jaime, Jordan, Patrick, and Andrew Toenies, Dillon and Mariah Rieland; great grandchildren, Brooke and Lucia Rieland; brother, Orville (Bernie) Rieland; sisters, Lailah (Jim) Simmer, Margie (Bob) Spanjers; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Rieland; step-sisters, Lois (Phil) Williams and Margie (Al) Beste; and step sisters-in-law, Collette and Viola Illies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hilda Rieland; brothers, Rambert and Ronald Rieland; step-father, John Illies; step-brothers, Fr. Wilfred, James, and Donald Illies.
Serving as casket bearers will be Darrin Quistorff, Brad Hartigan, Kyle Hartigan, Shawn Rieland, Patrick Toenies, and Dillon Rieland. Cross bearer will be Michael Hartigan and scripture bearer will be Andrew Toenies.
Memorials are preferred.
