Roman H. Jennissen, age 78 of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 13 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. followed by United Veterans prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Roman Henry Jennissen was born February 15, 1935 in Getty Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Joseph and Clara (Wessel) Jennissen. He grew up on a farm near Padua. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954 and in 1958 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He retired in 1975 after tours of duty in Japan, two tours in Vietnam and two tours in Germany, as well as numerous stateside duty stations.
He married Mary Riermann on August 19, 1958 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple had resided in Sauk Centre since 1975. Roman was employed as a welder for several years and retired from Jennie-O in 2002. Roman enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, four wheeling and all types of nature.
Roman was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church and Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jennissen of Sauk Centre; seven children, Linda (John) Hinnenkamp of Sauk Centre, Ronald Jennissen of Holmes City, Debbie (Bill) Britz of Sauk Centre, Kathy (Rusty Rohde) Van Havermaet of Sauk Centre, Sandy (Bucky) Blank of Sauk Centre, Diana (Troy) Kiecker of Big Lake and Juliana (Paul) Robischon of Sauk Centre; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Adeline (Harlen) Nelson of Norway Lake; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Al Jennissen; infant siblings, Mary and Joseph; infant granddaughter, Carrie Britz; and nephew, Joe Jennissen.
Serving as casket bearers will be grandsons, Matt and Luke Jennissen, David and Brian Britz, Cody, Kenny, Sawyer and Danny Hinnenkamp. Cross bearer will be Kali Robischon and scripture bearer will be Megan Kiecker. Honorary bearers will be Amanda and Lisa Jennissen, Sarah Carruth, Emily Britz, Brittany and Myria Van Havermaet and Chris Hinnenkamp. Gift bearers will be Haley and Tyler Blank and Jacob Robischon.
