Roman J. Ebensteiner, age 88 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully surrounded by his family Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 14 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. James Statz officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard with interment following in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Sauk Centre Seniors will pray at 4 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 5 p.m., United Veterans prayer service at 7 p.m. and Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Roman Ebensteiner was born June 9, 1920 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to John and Katherine (Dix) Ebensteiner. He farmed with his brother, Nick, south of Sauk Centre and worked at the Belgrade Feed Mill and the Holdingford Feed Mill, until retiring in 1985. On January 11, 1985 he married Wilma Paul at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. He had been a 4-H leader and also worked at the Stearns County Fairgrounds for many years.
Roman was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, where he served as an usher; Bishop Busch Council 4863 Knights of Columbus; Queen of Peace General Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; Sauk Centre Seniors; and American Legion Post 67.Roman enjoyed woodworking, especially birdhouses and birdfeeders, many of which were donated to the Sauk Centre Seniors fundraisers. He also made many things for his grandchildren. He spent many hours helping out on the farm, feeding birds, and counted cross stitch embroidery. He and his wife, Wilma, enjoyed square dancing together.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Ebensteiner of Sauk Centre; two children, Jacqueline (Bruce) Hegg of Sauk Centre and Michael (Geri) Ebensteiner of Edmond, Oklahoma; three step-sons, Gerald (Margaret) Paul and Grant (Jeane) Paul, all of Bloomington, and Dennis (Beverly) Paul of Osakis; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; brother, Ray Ebensteiner of Sacramento, California; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Chad Ebensteiner; step-granddaughter, Kiersa Paul; brothers, Nick, Ed, and Adolph Ebensteiner; infant brother, Nick; and sisters, Clara Peters and Tillie Ebensteiner.
Serving as casket bearers will be Gerald, Grant, and Dennis Paul, Bruce Hegg, George Peters, and Norb Ebensteiner. Cross bearer will be Eileen Fritzlar and scripture bearer will be Candace Hegg. Honorary bearers will be the Queen of Peace General Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
