Roman J. Douvier, age 87 of Melrose, died peacefully Saturday, August 5, 2006 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 8 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa. Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Roman Douvier was born March 1, 1919 in Krain Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Louis and Anna (Wolbeck) Douvier. On February 17, 1947 he married Martha Krantz at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Anoka, where Roman managed the turkey division of Northland Farms. They farmed in the St. Rosa area from 1951 to 1956. In 1956 they purchased a farm on Mary's Lake, where he resided until 1994. In 1994 he moved to the old Wessel school house, five miles north of Melrose. For the past year he had resided at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa. Roman was an avid fisherman, especially dark house spearing, loved old Western movies and enjoyed watching wrestling on television.
Survivors include nine children, Robert (Mary) Douvier of Sauk Centre, David (Judy) Douvier of St. Stephen, Randy (Amy) Douvier of Newton, Kansas, Roger (Marlene) Douvier of Avon, Terry (Tina) Douvier of Sauk Rapids, Thomas (JoAnn) Douvier of St. Rosa, Timothy (Brenda) Douvier of Bowlus, Cynthia (Richard) Ostendorf of Avon and Nancy Douvier of Melrose; 19 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother and sisters, Herbert Douvier of Sauk Centre, Louise (Raymond) Euteneuer of St. Cloud, Rose (Ed) Kapsner of Holdingford and Eleanor (Dan) Pilarski of Clitherall.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha on December 4, 1993; brothers, Frank, Edmund and Clemens Douvier; and sisters, Frances Lange and Hildegard Waldorf.
Serving as casket bearers will be Greg, Jesse, Tony and Ryan Douvier, Jay Brinkman and Rodney Michels. Cross bearer will be Clayton Douvier and scripture bearer will be Wess Ostendorf. Honorary bearers are Donald and Kathy Dobmeier, Jerry and Joyce Dobmeier, David and Carol Butkowski, Fred and Geri Viere, Dale and Lisa Austing and Kenny Ritter.
