Roman J. "Boysie" Bushman, age 82, of New Munich, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 surrounded by his family at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church in New Munich. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. followed by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard at 6 p.m. Friday evening.
Roman John Bushman was born July 1, 1932 in New Munich to Walter and Pauline (Suck) Bushman. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. On September 29, 1956 he married Lou Ann Rose at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Roman started out working for Starry Construction before owning and operating Bushman Sand & Gravel Road Construction. He retired in 1998 and before long he was back working, as his hobby, for Worms Lumber & Ready Mix in New Munich. Boysie enjoyed fishing, dancing, listening to music, traveling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Boysie was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050, New Munich Lions Club, Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Joseph's Men's Society, and was a volunteer fireman for the New Munich Fire Department for 20 years.
Roman is survived by his wife, Lou Ann Bushman of New Munich; children, Kim (Randy) Wiener of Sauk Centre, Gale Turner of Sauk Centre, Earl Bushman of Albany, Glen (Sandy) Bushman of Grey Eagle, Jill (Bob) Pomroy of Minneapolis, Amy (Steve) Thelen of Avon, and Stacy (Kyle) Klasen of Melrose; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Kenneth (Pat) Bushman of New Munich, Dolores (Larry) Terwey of Sauk Centre, Bud Bushman of Farming, Wayne (Ceil Humbert) Bushman of Melrose, and Darlene (Roger) Burg of St. Martin.
Roman was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pauline Bushman.
Serving as casket bearers will be Ben Austing, Kellin Proell, Jonathan Turner, Tomie Bushman, Jacob Bushman, Tanner Bushman, Hunter Thelen, and Carter Klasen. Cross bearer will be Jodi Traut and scripture bearer will be Kenzie Klasen. Honorary bearers will be the New Munich Lions.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association.
