Roger L. King, age 82 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 26 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melrose with Rev. David Mommens officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Roger Leigh King was born July 4, 1938 in Wilmot, South Dakota to Otis and Elizabeth (Babb) King. He grew up on the family farm with 10 siblings. Roger graduated from high school and then attended Electronic School for a year. He married Gayle Christensen on September 4, 1960 in Wilmot, South Dakota. The couple moved to Melrose in 1972, where Roger worked for Melrose TV and Marine for close to 30 years.
Roger was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melrose. He enjoyed fishing, reading, puzzles, watching westerns, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Gayle King of Melrose; children, David (Terrie) King of Bland, MO, Duane (Pamela) King of Aitkin, Nancy (Kevin) Kuhlmann of Sauk Centre, Stacey (significant other, Allen Vogel) King of Melrose, and Kristi (Ronald) Gieske of Sauk Centre; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Shirley Thompson, Barbara (Jim) Madison, and Franklin (Cele) King.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Brianna King; and siblings, Myrna Remund, Wendell King, Beverly King, Donna Deville, Merton King, Alta McNish, and Leslie “Bud” King.
Serving as casket bearers will be Matthew King, Dustin King, Jordan King, Wayne Ward, Matt Frost, Ron Gieske, Jason Becker, and Nathan Lynnes.
