Roger J. Engelmeyer, age 82 of St. Rosa, died peacefully surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer on Saturday, September 15 at his home near St. Rosa, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 20 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa with Rev. Dan Walz officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery following the service with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m., Melrose Veteran Honor Guard will pray at 7 p.m., and the St. Rosa Lions, Catholic United Financial, and Holy Name Society will pray a rosary at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Roger John Engelmeyer was born December 11, 1935 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Christ and Bertha (Herzog) Engelmeyer. He attended school in St. Rosa. Roger married Mary Ann Finken on September 30, 1958 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was employed at Franklin Manufacturing and Melrose Creamery. He drove milk truck for Engelmeyer Bulk Milk and was the owner and operator of Engelmeyer Milk Hauling. Roger also was a Renk Seed Corn dealer.
Roger was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and he loved to play cards with the guys. He was one who always kept busy by gardening, fishing, house painting, bartending, repairing cow clippers, and socializing in the community. He was also an usher at church for many years and would cut the lawn at the cemetery.
Roger was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Catholic United Financial, St. Rosa Lions, Melrose American Legion, and the Roving Hillbillies Snowmobile Club. He also served as a Melrose School board member for 15 years.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann (Finken) Engelmeyer of St. Rosa; children, Audrey (Scott) Blasko of Afton, Dale (Debbie) Engelmeyer of St. Rosa, Diane (Leon) Stueve of Albany, Glen (Darlene) Engelmeyer of St. Rosa, Karen (Henry) Gruber of St. Cloud, Jim (Roseann) Engelmeyer of Freeport, and Laura (Galen) Stickfort of Stillwater; 22 grandchilren; 15 great-grandchildren and two on the way; sisters, Alice McKenny of St. Louis Park, Caroline Engelmeyer of Albany, Gloriann (Jerry) Thomas of Little Falls, and Mary Jane (John) Klaphake of St. Rosa; and sister-in-law, Margie Engelmeyer of St. Rosa.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Christ and Bertha Engelmeyer; brothers, Art Engelmeyer and Ron Engelmeyer; brother-in-law, Ronald McKenny; sister-in-law, Mary Kay Engelmeyer; and great-granddaughter, Addison Wensman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jon Blasko, Ryan Engelmeyer, Jason Stueve, Jesse Stueve, Andy Engelmeyer, and Tim Stickfort. Cross bearer will be Elisha Engelmeyer and scripture bearer will be Elisabeth Gruber. Honorary bearers will be Bill Hinnenkamp, Eberhart Hinnenkamp, and the St. Rosa Lions. Readers will be Sara Engelmeyer, Amanda Engelmeyer, and Nicole Ebnet. Gift bearers will be Jenny Terwedo, Melinda Wensman, and Kimberly Stickfort. Words of remembrance will be done by Stacy Johnson and Nicole Ebnet.
