Roger D. Carpenter, age 83 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully Thursday, April 30, 2009 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 4 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre with Rev. James Clausen officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre.
Roger Carpenter was born October 2, 1925 in Ashley Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Dwight and Bertha (Robertson) Carpenter. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On April 17, 1949 he married Beverly Feucht at the United Brethren Church in Grey Eagle, Minnesota. The couple farmed in Ashley Township all of their married life. For the past two years he had resided at St. Michael's Nursing Home.Roger sold Pioneer Seed Corn for 42 years and had been a member of the Board of Directors of Minnesota National Bank in Sauk Centre. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, where he had served on the church board.
Roger loved raising livestock and farming the land. But most of all he loved his family and spending time hunting with his sons and grandsons.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Carpenter of Sauk Centre; three children, Wayne Carpenter and Richard (Penny) Carpenter, all of Sauk Centre, and Marilyn (Chad) Rajdl of Brady, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Clayton Carpenter of Sauk Centre, Cy (Frances) Carpenter of Bloomington, Mildred (George) Engdahl of Anoka, Alta (Harry) Hanson of Sauk Centre, and Jeanette Wolff of Bloomington.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald, Robert, and Russ Carpenter; and sister, Betty Engdahl.
Serving as casket bearers will be his grandsons, Shane, Trent, Anthony, Dylan, and Spencer Carpenter, Tyler and Cody Rajdl. Honorary bearers will be Dale Emmel, Don Christen, Gary Wolf, and Mel Walter.
