Roger H. Butkowski, age 85 of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 15 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church in St. Rosa.
Roger Herman Butkowski was born January 3, 1928 in St. Rosa, Minnesota to Ignatius and Anna (Korte) Butkowski. On June 20, 1953 he married Beverly Pangburn at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Roger resided in St. Paul for 15 years before purchasing a farm in St. Rosa in 1960, where he farmed until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa. Roger enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and woodcarving and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Lyle Butkowski of Melrose, Suzanne (Bill) Stone of Hastings, Sheila Petermeier of Melrose, Leslie (Delores) Butkowski of Osakis, and Lawrence (Kim) Butkowski of St. Rosa; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Lucille Stanek of Richfield, Dorothy (Cap) Weller of Elrosa, Luverne Fleischacker of St. Paul, Annette (Sylvester) Hollenkamp of St. Rosa, Marvin (Dorothy) Butkowski of Minnetonka, Melvin (Carol) Butkowski of St. Joseph, and Raymond Butkowski of St. Rosa.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Butkowski on January 26, 2010; parents; grandson, Ransom Butkowski; brothers, Florian and Jerome Butkowski; and sisters, Bernice Herzog and Olivia Beste.
