Rodney A. “Hot Rod” “Rockin’ Rod” Lanners, age 56 of Burtrum, died after a two-month courageous battle with stage 4 esophagus and liver cancer on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at the CentraCare Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 11 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Ron Dockendorf officiating. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Rodney Abraham Lanners was born June 21, 1964 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Robert “Bob” and Ursula (Schoefer) Lanners. He graduated from Grey Eagle High School in 1982 and continued his education at Willmar Vocational Technical College. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Wagner on July 7, 1984 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rosemount, Minnesota. Rodney was a proud member of the Union Pipefitter Local 539 and worked at Gustafson Mechanical in Alexandria. He was a hard worker and was known to be a handyman. Rodney and Marilyn owned and operated Eagle Mountain from 2006 through 2016.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle, Mound Lake Association, Car Clubs, and the Grey Eagle Burtrum Lions Club. Rodney had a passion for classic cars and loved to restore and sell them. He enjoyed being outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, enjoyed four wheeling and mud runs, going to car shows and swap meets. Rodney loved spending time with his family and friends. He was always eager to lend a helping hand and will be remembered for his sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Lanners of Burtrum; two daughters, Ashley Lanners of St. Cloud and Amy Lanners of Burtrum; grandchildren, Noah Kreidler of St. Cloud and Natalie Kreidler of St. Cloud; father, Bob Lanners of Burtrum; sister, Anita (Rick) Walker of Pillager; mother-in-law, Rosemary Wagner of Ellsworth; sister-in-law, Ruth (Mike) Wenz of Gillette, Wyoming; brothers-in-law, Neal (Julie) Wagner of Rosemount and Eugene "Fuzz" Wagner of Burtrum; and many nieces and nephews.
Rodney was preceded in death by his mother, Ursula Lanners on December 11, 2019; and father-in-law, Joseph Wagner on November 27, 2006.
