Robert Rieland

Robert L. "Bob" Rieland, age 79 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully after a short battle with cancer Tuesday, June 10, 2014 surrounded by his family at his home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 13 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Tim Wenzel officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Robert Leander Rieland was born May 21, 1935 in Oak Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Leo and Eleanor (Nathe) Rieland. As a young man, Robert worked on a ranch in Montana for a number of years before moving back to Minnesota. On July 28, 1962 he was united in marriage to Ruthann Nathe at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Robert worked for Starry Construction, later known as Central Specialties and retired in 1998. After retirement he worked at Schurman Farms for three years.

Bob was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, fishing, hunting turtle and deer, taking car rides, and going to the casino.

Survivors include his wife, Ruthann Rieland of Sauk Centre; four children, David Rieland of New Munich, Karen Hall of Waite Park, Nancy (Ron) Lingle of Sauk Centre, and Lori (Kevin) Uphoff of Sauk Centre; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Chuck (Lucy) Rieland of Fridley; sister, Barb (Hunter) Anderson of Cambridge; and sisters-in-law, Barb Rieland and Monica Rieland, both of New Munich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marvin, Vernon, and Giles Rieland; sister-in-law, Luella "Lu" Rieland; and son-in-law, Dean Hall.

Serving as casket bearers will be Steve, Luke, Dennis, Tom, Brian, and Randy Rieland. Cross bearer will be Logan Lingle and scripture bearer will be Megan Uphoff.
