Robert A. "Bob" Hintzen, 74, of Sauk Centre died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at the St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, after fighting many years to overcome a pituitary gland tumor.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2005 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Sauk Centre with Rev. James Statz officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sauk Centre.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral Home.
Robert Hintzen was born on January 17, 1931 in St. Cloud, MN to Lambert and Susan (Steidl) Hintzen. He graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1949 and St. John's University in 1953. During his high school and college career he played basketball and football. He married Alyce Lucille Anderson from Dassel, MN on July 6, 1954. Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He and his wife, Alyce built a home in Sauk Centre in 1957. Bob was employed by Independent Millwork, Inc. from 1955-92 and served as vice president of the company from 1982-92. He was also part owner of Viking Steel from 1968-79. Bob was a long time member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Club and served as a president of the Sauk Centre Golf Club for many years and was an active member. One of his favorite pastimes was golfing at the Sauk Centre Golf Club with his friends. He shot a hole-in-one five times with one being a 365 yd par 4 dog leg. One of the high points in his life was to play in the Bob Hope Desert Classic, Palm Springs, CA, in 1979 as an amateur player. He did extensive work on the Sauk Centre Golf Club and on the course grounds. He took great pride in the course and enjoyed many hours there. He also enjoyed winters in Palm Springs, CA, with his wife, Alyce. He was proud of his family and his grandchildren were the joy of his life.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Alyce Hintzen of Sauk Centre; sons, John Hintzen (Melody) of Chaska, Mark Hintzen of Maple Grove and Paul Hintzen (Shawn) of Sauk Centre; and grandchildren, Alyssa, Katie, Amy, and Laura.
Casket bearers will be Bob Polipnick, Red Emblom, Mike Kane, Harry Hanson, Lou Plant, Arnie Tietz, and Jim Meister. Cross bearer will be Laura Hintzen. Honorary bearers will be Archie Faulhaber, David Mayer, Julian Loe, and Bill Enright.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lambert and Susan Hintzen; and infant sister, Patricia Hintzen.
