Rita R. Toenies, age 78 who passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Andrew Marthaler and Rev. Sylvester Kleinschmidt will concelebrate. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Rita Rose Toenies was born November 22, 1931 in West Union, Minnesota to Nicholas and Louise (Deters) Marthaler. On November 6, 1956 she was united in marriage to Jerome G. Toenies at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple resided in Sauk Centre and Rita was a bookkeeper for Main Street Electric until 1977. She also owned and operated H&R Block from 1971 until the present.Rita enjoyed embroidery and watching Minnesota Twins baseball. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853 Auxiliary, and American Legion Post 67 Auxiliary.
Rita is survived by seven children, Cary (Sandy) Toenies of Fairbanks, Alaska, Kevin (Danette) Toenies of Big Lake, Keith (Karen) Toenies of Sauk Centre, Dale Toenies of Fairbanks, Alaska, Karen (Doug) Fowler of Bloomington, Illinois, Patrick Toenies of Sauk Centre, and Carla Dulas of Glenwood; ten grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Sr. Petronelle Marthaler, OSB of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Norbert "Red" (Yvonne) Marthaler and Florence Marthaler, all of St. Cloud.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Jerome Toenies on October 13, 2009; brother and sisters, Bernard Marthaler, Alice Unger, and Evelyn Dunsmore.
Serving as casket bearers will be Adam, Aaron, Patrick, and Andrew Toenies, Christopher Dulas, and Howard Marthaler. Cross bearer will be Michaella Fowler, scripture bearer will be Kelli Fowler, and gift bearers will be Jordan Toenies and Danette Toenies. Lectors will be Jaime Semling and Sara Toenies.
