Richard "Dick" Schwartz, age 70 of Minneapolis, formerly of Sauk Centre, died on Thursday, February 26, 2004 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Dick was born on February 24, 1934 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Fred and Julianna (Nathe) Schwartz. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and a 1952 graduate of Sauk Centre High School. He attended the North Dakota College of Science at Wahpeton, North Dakota and was employed as a printer at the Sauk Centre Herald and later at Northwest Publishing Company in St. Paul, Minnesota until purchasing the Palmer House Hotel in Sauk Centre in 1974. He owned and operated the hotel until 1993. Since 1995, he resided in Minneapolis where he enjoyed retirement in the heart of the city and was an active member of St. Olaf's Catholic Church. His love for Sauk Centre never faded and he treasured return visits with family and friends.
Survivors include his sister, Marcelene "Marcy" (Harold "Bud") Weitzel of Sauk Centre; nieces, Susan (Robert) Hoffman of Sauk Centre, Ruth Ann (Tom) Altendahl of Grey Eagle, Janet (Brian) Robertson of Maple Grove, Gail (Rick) Freitag of Alexandria, Carla (Roger) O�Hotto of Sartell, and Virginia (Michael) Steichen of Baxter.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 1 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Todd Schneider officiated with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Casket bearers were Robert Hoffman, Tom Altendahl, Brian Robertson, Rick Freitag, Roger O'Hotto and Michael Steichen. Cross and scripture bearers were his godchildren, Susan Hoffman and Maggie Hoffman.
