Richard J. Sand, age 91, of Albany, died peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2006 at the Albany Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 27 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the gathering area of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany. St. Joseph's Society will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
Richard Sand was born December 20, 1914 in Krain Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Nicholas and Anna (Olberding) Sand. He married Adeline Weisbrich on August 11, 1941 in St. Anthony. Richard farmed most of his life near St. Anthony and retired in 1980. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and welding at his son's business. He was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany and the St. Joseph's Society.
Richard is survived by his children, Nicholas Sand and his wife, Lois of Albany, Diann Laing and her husband, John of Albany, Judith Ritter and her husband, Dennis of Melrose, Marvin Sand and his wife, Marian of Albany, LeRoy Sand and his wife, Debbie of Albany, Gerald Sand and his wife, Elaine of Albany, Audrey Dingmann and her husband, Marvin of Avon, Lester Sand and his wife, Donna of Freeport, and Floyd Sand and his wife, Sandy of Freeport; 29 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Theresa Goebel and her husband, Norbert of St. Anthony, Victor Sand of St. Anthony, Alvina Koglin and her husband, Gene of Albany, Loretta Petermeier and her husband, Ed of Melrose, Lawrence Sand of Freeport, and Vera Ritter of Melrose.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Adeline Sand on October 7, 1997; great-granddaughter, Sydney Jo Sand; brothers and sisters, Henry Sand, Alfred Sand, Alma Pundsack, Helen Sand, Elfrieda Kerfeld, and Monica Ritter.
Serving as casket bearers will be Richard's sons, Nicholas, Marvin, LeRoy, Gerald, Lester, and Floyd. Serving as cross bearer will be Pam Ritter. Honorary bearers will be St. Joseph's Society.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
