Richard Kortan

Richard J. "Rich" Kortan, age 92 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 26 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.

Richard Joseph Kortan was born January 27, 1924 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Charles Sr. and Mary (Novak) Kortan. He was united in marriage to Joan Wiener on June 21, 1949 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Richard worked at Sauk Centre Farmers Elevator, City Service Gas Station, and Home Gas/Texgas for 28 years. He then worked at St. Michael's Hospital for 13 years.

Richard was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church where he served as an usher and Knights of Columbus member. He was also a member of the Sauk Centre Seniors. Richard enjoyed watching TV game shows, shaking dice, bowling, playing cards, and working.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Kortan of Sauk Centre; children, Dennis (Cheryl) Kortan of Sauk Centre, Paul (Diane) Kortan of Sauk Centre, Rita (Dan) Fiedler of Two Rivers, WI, Roger Kortan of Belgrade, MT, Mary (John) Cipolla of Citrus Springs, FL, Mark (Laura) Kortan of Sauk Centre, Randy Kortan of Sauk Centre; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carol; brothers and sisters, William, Steve, Charles, Frank, James, George, Evelyn, Helen, and Mathilda.

Serving as casket bearers will be Richard's grandsons, John Fiedler, David Fiedler, Joshua Fiedler, Kevin Kortan, Jason Kortan, and Jeremy Kortan. Cross bearer will be Jaden Fiedler. The reader will be Anissa (Kortan) Klockenga and the eulogy will be read by Angela (Fiedler) Hanson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Church building fund.
