Richard H. "Rich" / "Dick" Jung, age 92 of Melrose, died Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at the Melrose Area Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 14 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vincent Lieser officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers at will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Melrose.
Richard H. Jung was born on April 19, 1914 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Frank and Antoinette (Kemper) Jung. He graduated from Tech High High School in St. Cloud in 1932 and attended St. Cloud Teacher's College (St. Cloud State University) for two years. Dick served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to Laverne M. Dominik on June 18, 1946 in Little Falls, Minnesota. They moved to Melrose in 1954. Dick was the owner/operator of Jung's Studio in Melrose from 1954 to 1976. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose, Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050, American Legion Post 101, and a charter member of Lion's Club in Melrose. Dick enjoyed all things connected with nature! Birds, trees, hunting, canoeing, fishing, agate hunting, tapping maple trees and making maple syrup, and golfing were some of his favorites. As it said in his high school yearbook, "Tom Sawyer can't compare with him as a real boy." He was an ardent Twins and Vikings fan!
He is survived by his wife, Laverne Jung of Melrose; children, Peter Jung of Hudson, New York, Susan Currey (Jerry) of St. Cloud, Mary Johnston (John) of Lake Arrowhead, California, and Ann Wickstrom (John) of Prior Lake; brother, Leonard Jung of Hayattsville, Maryland; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister, Herbert and Francis Jung and Mildred Wittmayer; and one grandson.
Casket bearers will be Jerry and Christopher Currey, John Johnston, John Wickstrom, Dick VanBeck and Jim Ploof. Serving as cross bearer will be Nell Currey and scripture bearer will be Marie Wickstrom. Honorary bearers will be Bob Hollermann, Ray Brickweg, Edie (Campbell) Finholt, Fran Hertzog, Caroline Ploof, and Urb Schulzetenberg.
