Richard M. Austing, age 62 of St. Rosa died Friday at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, St. Rosa with Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 3:30 - 9 pm and Monday from 8 -10 am at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. Rosa Lions and Holy Name Society will pray at 7 pm followed by parish prayers at 8 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Richard Austing was born on December 28, 1940 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Bernard and Rogaria (Stoermann) Austing. He was united in marriage to Dorothy C. Finken on May 1, 1961 at St. Anthony. They have lived in St. Rosa most of their life where he owned and operated Rich's Body Shop. Rich was employed by the city of St. Rosa as caretaker of the St. Rosa Community Park. He was involved in starting the Roving Hillbillies Snowmobile Club and also the St. Rosa Lions Club. Richard was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, St. Rosa Jaycees and the St. Rosa Lions Club. Richard was also a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award through the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Austing of St. Rosa; children, Jeff Austing (Rose) of Freeport, Sandy Sand (Floyd) of Freeport, Joyce Traczyk (Paul) of Blaine, Brenda Salzmann (Scott) of Avon, Dan Austing (Lori) of Freeport, and Dick Austing (Jane) of St. Rosa; 13 grandchildren; mother, Rogaria Austing of Melrose; brothers and sisters, Melvin Austing (Judy Tise) of Inver Grove Heights, Carol Stangler (Maurice) of Melrose, Kathy Funk of Sauk Centre, Patty Klaphake (Jim) of Cold Spring, Linda Beuning (Bernard) of St. Cloud, Ronald Austing of St. Rosa, Marilyn Breth (Gerald) of St. Cloud and Karen Mueller (David) of St. Rosa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Austing; and brother, Ervin Austing.
Casket bearers will be John and Henry Arnzen, Ervin Kerfeld, Ron Engelmeyer, Vick Elfering and Dennis Ritter. Cross bearer will be Robin Sand. Scripture bearer will be Jordan Meyer. Honorary bearers will be the St. Rosa Lions Club Members.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
